Sutherland’s Grove

Another family cycle, this time some off-roading with the boys. The guide said “Green – novice – easy”. Family Faroon say – “Quite tough, actually, with some particularly steep bits throughout”. The boys did really well – they needed me to push their bikes for a fair bit of it, but they did try, and they managed the downhills really well. Only 2 falls, and only 1 set of tears. Great stuff from the boys. And they can’t get enough of it – they want to cycle more and more. Great news.

Nearly a Half Marathon

I set off for a run this evening, planning on doing, maybe, 5K, and then just carried on, Forrest Gump Style. So, by the end of it, I’d done nearly a half marathon.

I did it in the Road X 255s, and very comfy they were too. I don’t think I’ve ever run that far before, ever. It was fine. I would have run some more, actually. Perhaps I should enter a half marathon sometime. Perhaps I should finish a 10K race first….

The best part of our holiday is the opportunity to go cycling with the boys. Today we went to Lismore, a small island off the West coast of Argyll, population 180, ish. The small ferry goes across once an hour, and no more; bikes are free to get across. There’s a bigger ferry from Oban for cars, but we went for the cyclist ferry, and a cycle once we got there.

There’s really not much in Lismore, so we had a lovely time cycling along the only road from the Northern tip, heading down towards seemingly the only cafe on the island, where we stopped for a snack.

The route was quite hilly, for the kids, but they managed very well, with only a bit of pushing. We had cola flavoured energy chews half way round, and got a lovely splash of sun on our arms. A great day.

Running in my Fives

Our first day of our holiday in Tralee Bay caravan park, so a quick run out in the Fives.

I didn’t really know how far to go, where the roads would go, if I’d get back…. So I ran until my calves hurt, then came back. I didn’t wear my compression calf support stocking things, which in retrospect was a mistake – I suspect I’m going to be sore tomorrow…..

Good running in the Fives, though. It reminds me how I’m still not landing on my mid foot consistently – I’m getting there, but it’s not consistent. And people look at me all funny, like.

The Fives are still the most ‘proprioceptive’ shoes I’ve tried, but I think I prefer the Trail Gloves, over all.

After a lovely day out and about, just enough time for a quick cycle around Benderloch and it’s surrounds. Essentially the route I ran a couple of days ago, but on the bikes with the kids. A nice wee route, the boys enjoyed the run out before bed time. I wish we had a similar easy route to do around the house, really. Perhaps we should cycle up the law at the weekend….
