Just a commute, this time?

Just a commute to work today:

To work

and back

But then, when I got home, the sun came out so we had chance to go to Fife for Emma’s first run out on the new bike. She was expecting to just cycle to Tayport, so a run out to Leuchars and back was a bit more than she had thought, but she was fine!

Commute and a bit more

No time today for anything except

a cycle to work

and

a cycle back again the ‘long way’ round. A very nice ride out to Liff, and back on the dual carriageway. A slog into the wind on the riverside, though.

And a dinner party later on.

Cycle Between Ward Rounds

After finishing work, and doing my ward 15 ward round today, I had about an hour to fill in, so I went home to get my Garmin (forgot it this morning) then cycle back to work up a few hills, and round and about the way. Not easy to go anywhere in Dundee without going up a few hills. The new bike makes it far more enjoyable than previously.

Cycle Back to work

Had to cycle back home once the ward round was finished.

Cycle back home

Cycle to work, quicker

After cycling on the turbo yesterday, time to use the bike on an actual road! So a cycle to work.

The bike is so responsive on the road, it accelerates very quickly, it really pulls up hills, and it’s such fun to ride.

Cycle to work

And, I managed to knock about a minute off my best ever previous time to cycle to work, without really trying. The tri bars are a bit loose, though. I must get them tightened – need to speak to LBS.

It rained all day, so I waited a wee while at work until it stopped raining, and then went the long way round to cycle home. Great ride home, and I’m sure I’ll be working out longer routes home in the future.

Cycle home from work

And once I got home, I had a spare half hour, so I managed to fit in another short weights session – chest and back.

Cycle with the new toy.

Just a cycle to work and back today, but I was able to use my new Forerunner 310XT to get a GPS map of my ride too and from work:

Cycle To Work.

Cycle Home From Work.

Nice.

Cycle to Work Scheme

Yes. I actually did cycle to work, and back again. I was surprisingly not that bad, actually. I still don’t have enough leg stamina, but I *was* quick – 11 minutes to get home tonight. My gears work well, since I tweaked them the other day, brakes still in working order, still a jarring experience with the potholed roads around here, though.

We’re off to Loch Lomond tomorrow for a holiday. Mrs Dundeechest will be coming back to Dundee to do her on call on Sunday, but we have plenty of time for cycling, swimming in the Loch (Wetsuit packed) and barefoot running on the beach.

Lovely.

5 a side later on.

Cycle to Work Again

Cycled to work again today, so it’s getting easier. The tri-bars are comfortable, but the roads are not brilliant quality so I feel a little unsteady when down on my elbows, but I’m getting better, I’m sure.

Increasingly I realise that the cycling will be my weakest part of the tri….

Cycle to Work Scheme

Cycled to work at 07:15 this morning. It was cold. So cold that I got into work, immediately logged onto Amazon and bought an under-helmet skull cap. It’s only 3 miles to work, but it’s up and down steep hills. Didn’t time myself. Nice to get some fresh air first thing in the morning.

Cycled back home at 21:45. It was very cold. Looking forward to that skull cap. Managed up Ninewells drive at 10mph, which I think isn’t far off what I was managing last year.

Cycling to work will make a massive difference to baseline fitness, I’m sure.

More tomorrow. Might wear my leggings.

Hoping to get a swim in tomorrow, or perhaps a run…
